Five Nashville SC players have tested positive for coronavirus since arriving in Orlando, Florida last week. Two players received positive results last weekend and the other three received positive results Monday night.
In addition, four other players have received results from tests that were inconclusive and require further testing.
The two clubs were scheduled to play this Wednesday when the league kicks off the season-opening tournament at Disney World’s ESPN World Wide World Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida.
The league will evaluate Nashville SC’s participation in the tournament following additional test results. For more details, when this match will be played they will be announced at a later date.
“We are doing something very clear and fast. Regardless of what happens with the #MLSisBack tournament, we will support 100% any player or the whole club, if they can’t participate. We want what is best for them, not what it’s better for us, ”they tweeted.
On Monday, MLS withdrew FC Dallas from the tournament after ten players and a staff member tested positive for the virus. The MLS Players Association recognized the complex nature of organizing a tournament during a pandemic.
In a statement posted to Twitter on Monday, the union wrote, “The elimination of FC Dallas from competition in Orlando is a reminder of how difficult it is to maintain the circumstances of re-working in all sports in the midst of this pandemic. “.
CNN has asked the MLSPA for a comment following the Nashville SC news.
